MEXICO
First Aired: February 2006
Our visit to the largest city in the world begins at the foot of a monument devoted to the end of discrimination. Then, Gerry Espinosa owner of the café BGay BProud introduces Charlie to the Zona Rosa, the city’s gay-friendly area and we meet Paulina Gomez lesbian author and councilor.
Charlie then visits an Aztec pyramid in the heart of Mexico City and makes his way to one of a kind fashion designer Ernesto Herandez’ for a little shopping. No trip to Mexico City is complete without a visit to the house of one of Mexico’s most famous painter Frida Kahlo. Then it’s off to El Armario Abierto, a Gay bookstore, to do a little “research”.
At night, Charlie visits the city’s most famous drag queen Tito Vasconcelos at CabaréTito, arm wrestles at Arts Bar, goes dancing at Lipstick, Boy Bar and the hottest club in town: Living.
